The legend of the Pikes Hotel Ibiza
We open the doors of what is now the Ibiza Rock House, only apparently one of the many high end hotel in Ibiza, because in reality inside its rooms the history of island's nightlife has been made...
The legend of Pikes is closely linked to that of its founder, Tony Pikes, whose life is told adventurous and extraordinary even before landing in Ibiza, at the end of 70s.
Together with his wife and two children, Pikes decides to buy an ancient finca in the countryside near San Antonio, and turn it into a hotel.
Don't be fool by the 'family ambience' of Pikes Hotel Ibiza: times were different, it's the Ibiza of the 80's, and soon the hotel builds the reputation as a place of vices and excess, becoming the favorite spot of rock stars and glamorous characters visiting the island.
In times when disco music and the big clubs were already taking over the island nightlife, the Pikes was offering a different type of transgression, more exclusive and private, lead by rock music and its philosophy.
Freddy Mercury celebrated here his 41st birthday, a party that left a mark even in the island of parties, attended by a list of names from the music and entertainment industry, like never before (and after).
The story of Pikes ended with its sale, and from 2011 is the Ibiza Rocks House, a high end hotel, which has of course changed philosophy but still celebrates its storied past regularly with events and preserves the memory of what it was.
It houses also a restaurant that has obtained a great reputation on the island: the Room 39.
If you want to visit and pay homage to this place of worship, you can also come have a drink in one of the two bars of the hotel while enjoying the beauty of the Ibicencan countryside and a drink by the pool, of course with rock music in the background.
